Dr. Hiroshi Okamoto

Dr. Hiroshi Okamoto is currently the Executive Vice President in charge of corporate planning and management reform at Tokyo Electric Power
Company (TEPCO) Power Grid, Inc. Prior to this, he was a Managing Executive Officer at TEPCO Holdings, Inc. and President of TEPCO Research
Dr. Okamoto started his career with TEPCO in 1993 in the Engineering Department. In 2010, he became the Group Manager of the Smart Grid Strategy
Group in the Engineering Department. Later, in 2013, he served concurrently in three General Manager positions - in the Power System Engineering
Center, Engineering R&D Department, and Wide-area Interconnection Promotion Office. In 2015, he became a Managing Executive Officer of TEPCO,
President of TEPCO Research Institute, and Secretary General of the New Growth Task Force.
In 2017, Dr. Okamoto jointly published a book “Utility 3.0: Game change in the energy industry 2050”. He has also published many articles and
other books. Dr. Okamoto is a member of the following associations, in whose work he is actively involved: IEC, CIGRE, IEEJ, GO15, and IUWG.
Dr. Hiroshi Okamoto received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1993, after gaining his Bachelor of Science and
Master of Science degrees from the same institution.
